Building a High Performing CDFI: Uncovering Options, Setting Priorities, Defining Methods

BBIF Florida strives to develop innovative, useful programs to assist in the development, promotion and advocacy of Black, Minority and underserved businesses throughout our community.  At the end of our fiscal year, our board meets with staff, volunteers, clients, and other stakeholders and partners in order to review and examine the impacts of BBIF Florida’s products and services.

The 2016 Annual Planning Session was held from August 31 – September 2, in Oakland, Florida. Themed, “Building A High Performing CDFI: Uncovering Options, Setting Priorities, and Defining Methods”,  our team was able to share the organizational goals, successes, challenges and opportunities and creatively collaborate with the stakeholders in attendance to add to or modify to our long-term strategic plan.

With over 40 attendees present, the 2016 planning session featured the participation of Natalie Cofield, Founder of Walkers Legacy, who brought a special presentation on The Needs of Black Female Businesses; Dell Gines, MBA, MSF, CEcD Senior Community Development Advisor, who gave an eye-opening Black Business Update;, Shevanti Daniel-Rabkin, Co-Director of Workers to Owners Democracy at Work Institute and Brendan Martin, Founder/Director of The Working World who teamed together to jointly educate the attendees on the use of cooperatives to impact the growth of our target market; Eleanor Reid Managing Director of Reid & Company, LLC, who provided an update and case studies on technical assistance and its use as a tool for CDFI growth; and Terri Preston Principal at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP who shared information on the use of New Markets Tax Credit allocations and opportunities to help bolster CDFI sustainability.
